REUNIONS

1. I am on the class committee, how to I post information about our reunion?
You can do that in two different ways. One, make an account for the bulletin board, and post your information in your class year; or two, contact the webmaster, which information is located in the Reunion Section of the site, and he will post all of the information for you with designed pages, for FREE.

2. How do I know if a reunion is coming up or not?
Actually this is a tricky question. Many people don't know about the wirtalumni.com site, therefore information isn't posted here about some of the reunions. Keep coming to the site and check the reunion area out to see if your Class reunion is listed; and also pass the word to more alumni that we are here to stay!

3. My reunion just ended and we have some great pictures. Can we put them on our Reunion section for people to download and also view?
Sure you can! Just zip them up, and send them to us, and we will be more than happy to make a slide show for people to view. It would be a good idea for you to also send a document telling us who and what is in each picture.

4. I would like to purchase a yearbook from my class for old memories. Can you help me with that?
We're sorry. We are not directly affiliated with Wirt High School anymore. In fact, that ended the year that we graduated. The advice that we have, would be to contact Wirt High School at 219-938-1161, and ask them about the old yearbooks.

WIRT STORE

1. Does the Wirt Store have 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on all Items?
YES. Shop from home with the comfort of knowing that your order is backed by a 100% Money Back Guarantee. This 30-Day Guarantee gives you plenty of time to check items for color, high-quality, and size for yourself, family and friends. If for any reason you need to return or exchange an item, just contact our Customer Service department and you're done!

2. I need to change my order, what should I do?
If you need to cancel your order, contact Customer Service in the WIRT STORE section. Please include the order number of the item that you would like to cancel to ensure accuracy.

If you have already completed an order and wish to add an additional item to your order, you will need to cancel your initial order and place a new order. Contact Customer Service for assistance. Please include the order number of the item that you would like to cancel to ensure accuracy.

Please note, if your order has already been processed, you may not be able to cancel or modify it.

3. How do I check my order status?
Check the status of any of your orders by visiting our Order Status page, in the WIRT STORE section. This is the easiest and fastest way to get the most current information regarding your order.

When you click on Order Status, you will be prompted to sign in with your email address and password. An order summary page will provide you with detailed information about your current or past orders. If your order has not been processed you may modify or cancel your order from this page.

If your order has been shipped via UPS, you may track it using links provided in your order detail. It may take up to one (1) business day for your information to be posted on the UPS website.

4. I feel very uneasy about using a credit card online. Can I still order from the Wirt Store?
Don't feel comfortable ordering products online? No problem! CafePress.com accepts orders over the phone.

To order by phone, please call us toll-free at 1-877-809-1659 during our customer service hours. Before calling, please note the Product Numbers of the items you wish to order. To find the Product Number, simply click on the item you wish to order and locate the Product Number below the item name (such as White T-shirt).

ECARDS

1. This is one of the best parts of the site! When are you going to add more class pictures to the eCards?
OH BOY... and we though that over 160 eCards would satisfy everyone for now. The pictures that we have in the eCards for "Yearbook," were taken out of the yearbooks around our home. If everyone would like more eCards of class pictures, start scanning your yearbook and sending us one page at a time, under high resolution. Save each page in PNG format; and we will go from there.

2. I just received a message thanking me for sending an eCard. Did you send it?
We sure didn't. Actually that is an automatic message that comes to your mailbox after sending a card. Then you receive one more, once the person that you sent the card to views it. It is set up just like Hallmarks Site.

TOOLBAR

1. People have told me that this site has a toolbar. I can't find it. Could you tell me what page it is on, and what all it has?
Sure I can. The toolbar has really grown since we have designed it. It is now compatible for Internet Explorer 5.0+ and also FireFox 1.0+ (Beta Version).

You can download the Toolbar on the the following page:
http://www.wirtalumni.com/toolbar/toolbar.htm

[Minimized Picture of Toolbar]

2. What does each button do?
I will post each button and give you a short description of what it does. This will give you a better idea of how useful the toolbar is.

This is the home button. If you click this button, it will take you to the opening page of the site.

This key will allow you to search the web, and also our site. When you search the web, you can use any of the search engines, by picking which one with the down arrow to the right.

This button will take you to the Wirt Alumni eCards section of our site. You can send eCards to all of your friends, across the nation. It is really nice.

This button will take you directly to the Wirt Store. It is great when you are in a hurry to go shopping for old memories of Wirt! Also great items for reunions!

This will take you directly to our Forum. We talk about everything...

This button will take you to the News Area. We keep it up to date all of the time. Also, if you download our news screen saver, "Wirt Alumni News"; It will tell you the titles of the new posts.

This button will take you to the Reunion Headquarters. You can view any reunions that are taking place, and also contact the webmaster if you would like to post for your class, about an upcoming reunion.

This will take you to the Golden Years Section. It gives you a little bit of History about Gary, Indiana in the 1920's. Also you can download a packet that we put together, that you can share with your family.

If you click on the Popular Links Button it will expand. Many of the Popular sites in Miller and Gary are listed in it. Miller Beach Site, Gary, Indiana Site, and a lot more...

So download the Toolbar. It's Free! You sure can't beat that...

GUESTBOOK

1. When I am done writing a message in the guestbook, Why do I have to type a special code to accept my message?
That's just recording who is leaving the message, your IP, the time, the date, and from what server. At this time, there are BOT's (programs with some artificial intelligence that are sent to do a task in lieu of a real person) that leaves advertisements in place of real messages. It can get really nasty. So we have put in the code for your own protection. The BOTS (Robots) do not type the code in, so the attempted messages that they try and leave, get erased.

ARCHIVES

1. While searching the Archives, I noticed that some of the entrees came from TROOPERS87.COM. Why is that?
Before wirtalumni.com appeared online, we were known as troopers87.com specifically for the Class of 1987.

As years went by, troopers from all of the decades appeared. So we changed the name, and turned the site into an alumni hangout for all of the Wirt Troopers. That is why in the Archives, you see old guestbook entrees from troopers87.com and wirtalumni.com. Now are now all in one.

________________________________________________________________________________________

HISTORICAL SITES

1. Those are really neat pictures that you have in the Historical Sites part of WirtAlumni.com. Where did you find all of the information?
The pictures and content that we use today were found on the internet about five years ago. Since then, they have been put on a professional site with the company that owns them. If you would like to find out more information about those pictures, and read more about the buildings, please go to "Gary - "America's Magic Industrial City" http://www.chameyer.net . It has all of the information.

2. Can you still use the pictures now since it is owned by someone else?
Yes we can. We do not use the exact pictures they have on their site anymore. In fact, we have just made the ones here into thumbnails, so you can get a quick view of them. If you would like to see the real pictures, you must go to chameyer.net to view them.

________________________________________________________________________________________

DOWNLOADS

1. I wanted to download a screensaver, but it came up as an EXE file. Is that safe to download?
Very good question! Our files are Virus Scanned every single day, by our server, and every single week by US (in case our server misses something). So to answer your question, YES they are safe to download. I would download the screensaver to your desktop, and then start it from there to install it. After you have installed it, then move the file to a place that you always have access to.

2. WOW! You have three servers to download from. Why so many?
In case the server is slow, or someone else is using the same server to download a file, we would recommend to use another one for faster speeds. It never hurts to have more than one server.

WILLIAM ALBERT WIRT

1. Why doesn't WIRTALUMNI.COM have any information about William Albert Wirt on the website?
Many people have asked us the same question, and we have given them the same answer. "You're not looking hard enough." Actually I have hidden the information of William Albert Wirt to make you search for it, so you can get used to the site; but I guess it is time to give everyone the answer.

If you look at the top of the page, on the left hand side, you will see a picture that looks like the symbol to the left. The "H" stands for History. If you click on the "H", it will give you a brief history of William Albert Wirt and his accomplishments as the superintendent of schools in Gary, Indiana. William A. Wirt, the Father of the Platoon System.

2. Where did you find this information?
This particular information that we have listed came from TROOPERS87.COM.

If you would like to learn more about William Albert Wirt, we recommend a fabulous book, based on the Gary school system. It is called, "Children of the Mill" and you can pick it up at Amazon.

FORUM

1.Why can't I log in?
Have you registered? Seriously, you must register in order to log in. Have you been banned from the board? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact the webmaster or board administrator to find out why. If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the board administrator -- they may have incorrect configuration settings for the board.

2. Why do I need to register at all?
You may not have to -- it is up to the administrator of the board as to whether you need to register in order to post messages. However, registration will give you access to additional features not available to guest users such as definable avatar images, private messaging, emailing to fellow users, usergroup subscription, etc. It only takes a few minutes to register so it is recommended you do so.

3. Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you log in, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc.

4. How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings?
In your profile you will find an option Hide your online status; if you switch this on you'll only appear to board administrators or to yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.

5. I've lost my password!
Don't panic! While your password cannot be retrieved it can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click I've forgotten my password. Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time.

6. I registered but cannot log in!
First check that you are entering the correct username and password. If they are okay then one of two things may have happened: if COPPA support is enabled and you clicked the I am under 13 years old link while registering then you will have to follow the instructions you received. If this is not the case then maybe your account need activating. Some boards will require all new registrations be activated, either by yourself or by the administrator before you can log on. When you registered it would have told you whether activation was required. If you were sent an email then follow the instructions; if you did not receive the email then check that your email address is valid. One reason activation is used is to reduce the possibility of rogue users abusing the board anonymously. If you are sure the email address you used is valid then try contacting the board administrator.

7. I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore!
The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason. If it is the latter case then perhaps you did not post anything? It is usual for boards to periodically remove users who have not posted anything so as to reduce the size of the database. Try registering again and get involved in discussions.

8. How do I post a topic in a forum?
Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You may need to register before you can post a message. The facilities available to you are listed at the bottom of the forum and topic screens (the You can post new topics, You can vote in polls, etc. list)

9. How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are the board admin or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (sometimes for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

10. How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form.

11. What are Usergroups?
Usergroups are a way in which board administrators can group users. Each user can belong to several groups (this differs from most other boards) and each group can be assigned individual access rights. This makes it easy for administrators to set up several users as moderators of a forum, or to give them access to a private forum, etc.

12. I cannot send private messages!
There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, the board administrator has disabled private messaging for the entire board, or the board administrator has prevented you individually from sending messages. If it is the latter case you should try asking the administrator why.

13. The times are not correct!
The times are almost certainly correct; however, what you may be seeing are times displayed in a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case, you should change your profile setting for the timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc. Please note that changing the timezone, like most settings, can only be done by registered users. So if you are not registered, this is a good time to do so, if you pardon the pun!

14. I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong!
If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still different, the most likely answer is daylight savings time (or summer time as it is known in the UK and other places). The board is not designed to handle the changeovers between standard and daylight time so during summer months the time may be an hour different from the real local time

GAMES

1. When I try to play a game, I get a blank screen. Should I have a special program installed?
Yes. Each of the games on Wirt Alumni were written by TWEBT.COM and they need shockwave to function. If you don't have shockwave installed on your computer, go to the following site, http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi? and install the program. It's free.

2. Are you going to write any new games for us to play?
So far we have written six different games for you to play and they are on the site, in the TROOPERS GAMES section. We write new games when we find extra time. Unfortunately, that is not often.

________________________________________________________________________________________

CALENDAR

1. Sometimes I don't like going class to class to see what reunions are taking place. Do you have them posted anywhere else?
Sure we do! Just click on the calendar section, located on almost every page, and it will take you to our yearly and monthly calendars. Located on the calendar, are reunions, holidays, special events, and more.

2. I don't see my reunion posted on the calendar. Why?
If your reunion is not posted on the calendar, most likely, it is not listed in the reunion section. If there is an error, please contact the webmaster.

________________________________________________________________________________________

VOTING BOOTH

1. What exactly is the voting booth for; and who makes up the questions?
The voting booth is just to give us an idea of what the alumni is interested in, and what they would like to see on the site. In special occasions, we add questions to find out your opinion on events for reunions. It helps the Reunion Committee's plan for your upcoming reunions.

2. Is there more than one Voting Booth?
Yes. The main Voting Booth is accessible from almost every page of the site in the right hand column. Also the other Voting Booth's are located in the Forum. All kinds of questions can be asked from Moderators, for users opinions.

________________________________________________________________________________________

MEMORIAL AREA

1. While searching the memorial area, I didn't see my former classmate listed. What should I do to have them added?
If a classmate that has passed away is not listed in the memorial area, please send us his/her name, class, obituary article, and a few comments about the person.

________________________________________________________________________________________

GOLDEN YEARS

1. This is a really neat part of the site! Where did you find all of the information, and the "Welcome to Gary" book?
Thank-you. The book and/or flyer was passed around to the citizens of Gary in the late 1920's, and has been in our family since that time. Not to long ago we came across it, and we decided to share it with all of you. So you can view it in two ways. Online, page by page; or download it as a pdf file.

It is all accessible from that area.

________________________________________________________________________________________

STATS OF WIRT

1. Neat statistics about Wirt High. Where did all of the information come from?
All of the stats about William A. Wirt High School came from a direct link to the Indiana Department of Education. You can find out more information connecting to http://www.doe.state.in.us/asap/welcome.html.

2. Will that part of the site be updated at all?
Of course! Each school year, we will update that part of the site to give you the new statistics of Wirt. We are sure the stats will be making a severe change in the next year or two.

________________________________________________________________________________________

VIDEOS

1. The video that I want to view is not working. Is there a special program that I need?
All of the videos are in WMV format. I would recommend the following programs:

WIN:
Windows Media Player 10
MAC:
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X

2. I have a cable connection, but I only see a 56k and DSL connection for the videos. What should I do?
Pick DSL. The DSL connection is "almost" as fast as the cable connection, and for quality, it is great. A smooth ride all the way.

________________________________________________________________________________________

PICTURES

1. When I went to view the pictures in the Windows Format, the control buttons weren't loaded. Also I noticed that the pictures were still loading. Why?
Another good question asked to us! In this age, we presumed that many people have DSL or Cable; but we were wrong. The Windows Format was made for DSL/Cable connection only.

So now you have two options. You can wait until all of the pictures are loaded to view them (and then the control buttons will load); or you can go to the new format that we created, WIN/MAC Format. That is located underneath the Windows Format in the Menu. This format shows the pictures one by one, and it really isn't a show.

________________________________________________________________________________________

LINKS

1. What made you put those certain sites on the links page?
Actually two reasons. First, we put some of our favorite Miller Sites on the Links page for others to check them out, and have fun at the sites; and two, when another site asks us to advertise their URL, if it is acceptable, we will advertise it for the search engines to pick them up.

2. Will you put a site on the Links page for me?
Sure. Just go to the Contact Us page, and send us the URL and a short description of the site. If it is in the area, and a "clean site," most likely we will put it on.
